This year has been very helpful in the progression of my work. Art 3 has likely been one of my first art class experiences where I feel art making and learning is fully taken seriously. This opportunity has been extremely beneficial, as for the first time in a while, I have been making art outside of school, unprompted.

After this year, I feel as though the area I have progressed the most is creating interesting ideas and meanings for pieces. After learning so much about art history and inspiring artists, I learned about the process of deriving inspiration, and how to comment, through art, on the world you see around you. I feel like I no longer struggle to come up with an interesting idea anymore, however the problem is executing it.

While I think I saw a slight improvement in my skills, I still struggle with the craftsmanship of my pieces. I've never been an avid artist, or someone who creates constantly, therefore I feel as though I have trouble improving any artistic skill without consistent practice. However, this year has provided me a slight opportunity to become a bit more "avid". With continuous sketchbook drawing, sketching and work in class, I feel as though I have at least developed a way in which I can start to improve my work. I can work consistently through processes I have learned in this class, hopefully improving my work.

I also find that I have trouble sticking to a medium. I feel that I sometimes try to avoid putting all my attention into one medium out of fear of either missing out on something else, or not being good enough at that medium even after putting all my eggs in that basket. While its fun to work in multiple mediums, my work is very scattered and uncohesize. There is no continuity in my work, and I'd like to be more consistant, or at least find my nieche. This is omething I severly need to improve on, especially for next year.

Next year, I intend to keep working and trying to actualize my ideas. Through continuous effort, I hope to realize the full potential of my ideas. I will do this by trying to create as many art pieces, outside of a school assignment, as possible. By creating for fun, I hope to improve my craftsmanship in a way that will keep me entertained, as I sometimes feel like creating for a grade feels transactional and restricting. Additionally, I aim to create more mixed media pieces next year or maybe over the summer. I have experimented with this in the past and enjoyed it, and I think it could help my medium indecision. While it may not turn out to be the right medium for me, using all different sorts of mediums could spark an interest and divert me towards a path. I am excited for the opportunity to continue improving next year, and actualizing my ideas!
